"A genuine great stay"
Kathryn and Kai gave us a wonderful experience. Our stay was first class with the facilities and their attention second to none. The house is very comfortable with all the mod-cons and we just did not want to go home.Christchurch people need all the help we can give and we could not think of a better place to start.Kathryn and Kai and Christchurch gave us a most memorable stay and we have no hesitation in recommending the Nest for your next holiday.
From Ann from Sydney but a KIWI
This was our second stay at the Nest, and confirmed what a perfect place it is for us (3 adults). It's a really lovely house; very warm in winter, and catches the sun throughout the day. It's great in the wet weather, too, as we discovered last year, because it is so warm. It's very spacious, but cosy because of the interesting and attractive layout, and the location is great - very quiet, with birdsong and great views. Kathryn and Kai are always so welcoming, too - in all, it just feels like coming home, and we will be back! If you need a holiday home in Christchurch, you can't do better than this!
"The Best Nest in Town"
From Gianna, Shawn, Emily and Josie, from Germany/New Zealand.
We chose this place for our homecoming to Christchurch after living overseas for two years.
It's hard to find nice affordable holiday accommodation in Christchurch these days but this place got it all. It ticks all the boxes for what we were looking for. We stayed at the Nest for a week with our family of four. The kids are 3 and 16month.
Kathryn and Kai are such a lovely couple which go the extra etxra mile for you to help where ever they can. They have heaps of good advice and are always nearby.
The nest is a very spacious house on three levels and there is lots to see and explore around the house and the enormous garden.
As we stayed in the middle of winter we were looking for somewhere warm to stay and the Nest definitely is.
There is Wlan Internet which was a big plus for us not having any cell phones set up yet. There is also a landline connection.
There is lots and lots of very useful information about Christchurch and New Zealand. The house is very well equipped.
All up I rate this place 5star plus.
Thanks Kathryn and Kai for making us feel so welcome and it was the best place to start our old/new life in Christchurch.
We will definitely recommend this place to all our visiting friends from overseas.
All the Best to you both.
"Warm and welcoming, both the house and the hosts."
From Jeanie from Parramatta
We arrived very late in the afternoon of a long cold day on the road, to be greeted by Kathryn and a lovely warm house. The pantry was stocked with basics, there was fresh fruit and lots of space for all 5 of us. The location was excellent, only a few minutes drive to the centre of the city and even less to some good eateries as recommended by Kathryn and Kai. Everything was clean and warm and comfortable and I will happily stay there again when I come back to Christchurch. Good luck to all the lovely people of Christchurch and especially to Kathryn and Kai.
"Home away From Home"

Rated: 5 of 5
Recently we visited NZ for our daughter's wedding and stayed at a Nest on Mount Pleasant. We had quite a long trip of it coming from the eastern United States. Kathryn and Kai were very welcoming, and the house was beautifully set up for us. From goodies in the fridge and pantry, we were able to throw together a quick supper. Enjoying a coffee thickly laced with cream the next morning, we enjoyed some of the amenities offered: Internet and computer, full service kitchen, spacious rooms and bathrooms, a beautiful view, wood burning stove in the living room, and a well set up bathroom with all the right touches...from heated towel racks to cozy robes. Our stay was fairly long...11 days, and it was a comfort to be able to return to such a comfortable home in the evenings. If anything needed tending to, Kathryn and Kai were just a call or quick walk away. We thoroughly enjoyed feeling as if we were "at home" and not in a hotel. The house is convenient in location, quiet, private and unique. The gardens were lovely, even in winter. We highly recommend a stay at "The Nest"!
From Joyce and Larry from St Paul Minnesota.
Stars cannot possibly rate the accommodation or the hosts. From the stunning view to the fabulous amenities, there simply can be no better place to stay in the Christchurch area. Quiet and a bit off the beaten path, a car is certainly the best way to get around. Kai and Kathryn are really great people who have travelled the world and can offer many tips for your excursions around CCh, which continues to be plagued by minor aftershocks. No worries, the nest is built to handle this and has weathered all the tremors with little more than a scratch. we stayed 4 nights and found it to be our best stop in NZ!
"Peace and privacy in the city"
From Fiona and Nga, Port Chalmers
My husband and I and another couple stayed here over Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The house is set amongst beautiful bush and gardens that gives it a real sense of privacy. The amenities are fantastic with plenty of opportunity for indoor and outdoor living. We appreciated too the extra little touches that Katherine and Kai provide such as a Christmas tree, crackers and even a Christmas cake. Our hosts made the stay so very relaxed and uncomplicated and we would recommend this place to anyone as a destination for a holiday.
"A Tree House for Grownups"
From Rebecca and Raymond, from San Diego, USA
This unique property is in a quiet neighbourhood on a hill nestled in a pine forest with a creek running through the property and a million dollar view of the bay. The owners, Kathryn and Kai, were so accommodating and friendly and made us feel right at home in The Nest. The property is three levels with two dining areas, a full kitchen, warm living room with a fireplace, and multiple levels of outdoor decks for enjoying the surrounding scenery. We absolutely loved this vacation rental and would come back again when in Christchurch.
From Greg, Mary and Jayde from Invercargill
Was better than a home away from home, everything was there that you need, well equipped home...and awesome bush setting, Would happily stay there again, and will recommend to family and friends..Thank you
From Naomi and Family from Newcastle Australia
We arrived at The Nest and found it to be beautifully presented with a well stocked pantry and all the niceties of a luxury stay. Kathryn and Kai made us extremely welcome and were able to provide useful travel information for us. The house allowed for each of us to have our own space and the garden and surrounds was a wonderful playground for the kids. The open fire and speculator views over the city and estuary made the stay a real escape, as well as a home away from home. Thank you for hospitality and consideration of every detail.
Nurtured in the Nest
From Mary Ann and Lawrence, Seattle, USA
We have travelled all over the world, staying in both luxury hotels, spartan accommodations in developing countries, condos in Hawaii, flats in Paris, etc. and we judge a Nest on Mount Pleasant to be one of our absolute favourites. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and dedicated to providing anything we might need. We enjoyed engaging in conversation with them and never felt that they "intruded" on our privacy or desire for independent living. The nest is very well appointed and enjoys a beautiful location. We especially enjoyed the beautiful landscaping at the Nest and its neighbourhood. We encourage others to experience the warmth of the Nest and its owners.
From Sue, Simon, Dan, Kim and Jess, from Cornwall UK
A Nest is a wonderful place to stay. The house is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and has every amenity that you would need to be able to cater for yourselves. Katherine and Kai are wonderful hosts, very informative about the surrounding area and things to do. Their gentle, kind hospitality makes you feel more of a friend than a 'customer'. I would return a thousand times over to say at a Nest and would not hesitate in recommending this beautiful house to any one who was thinking of staying there.
The Perfect Holiday Home
From Liz and John from Dorset UK
The service and friendliness that we received from Kathryn and Kai was exceptional, we loved staying at the Nest with its large bedrooms very well fitted kitchen and bathrooms in fact it lacked for nothing.
The location we found most desirable perched high on the hill we could sit on the decking all around the
house admiring the wonderful views , and as a bonus Kathryn and Kai were always close at hand with help and advice if you needed it but never invading your privacy.
We found nothing whatsoever to complain about and would be delighted to stay at the Nest when we are next in New Zealand
It was so good we came back for a second visit
From Lisa, Neil, Charlotte and Danny from the UK
Our visit to the Nest was excellent from the start, we visited as part of an extended year of travelling and it was at the Nest that we received the best welcome.
Ideally located for a stay in Christchurch with great views and tucked away so that it is quiet it was ideal.
A very homely Nest!
From Clare, Richard, Fern and Max from Exeter, UK
Kathryn and Kai made us incredibly welcome ensuring that we had leaflets and information to find attractions to visit and the fridge and cupboards were filled with all we needed for a few days. We travel a lot and are always surprised by how little owners generally supply. Here we had plenty of towels, bedding, cleaning materials, wood for the fire, food and even shower gel, soap and shampoos in both the bathrooms. The house was very homely and extremely comfortable. The free use of the computer and internet were an added bonus. The children thought that the house and garden were great as they were built on 4 or 5 levels. This was a super, spacious place to stay. The nest is a short ride from the beach, the supermarket and town.
Living in a home with everything
From Sally and Tony Omarama, New Zealand
Wonderful setting and view. The house is like walking into someone's home with a pantry, fridge and cupboards full of everything you would have at home. The comfort of a leather lounge suite, log burner and books, games DVD with the side board full of fine wine glasses and a computer for your use. What more can I say- gobsmackingly good! And the friendliest hosts.
"We left Kai, Kathryn, and their Nest with the heaviest of hearts"
From Gordon and Beth Bruno, Connecticut USA
As retired people from Danbury, Connecticut, we have been hosted in many
homes both in the U.S. and abroad. It would be an understatement to say we
have never enjoyed such hospitality in such a spectacular setting as we
experienced in Christ Church at the Nest with Tai and Kathryn just up the
street. It is no exaggeration to report that these wonderful ambassadors of
New Zealand, and the South Island in particular, made my wife and me feel as
if we were members of their family.
Home from home in NZ
From Felicity and Simon from Brecon, Wales
The Nest is an absolute delight overlooking wonderful views from a hillside retreat which is an easy drive from the wonderful city of Christchurch. Kai and Kathryn's welcome to their 'Nest' was our first experience of an NZ welcome and it really couldn't have been warmer or more hospitable. Travelling from the UK meant we were wary of what would we need to bring to what we call a self-catering stay but Kathryn had thoughtfully provided everything - from salt to dressing gowns, and salad dressing to shower gel. There was lots of hot water, great showers and high quality bedding and towels. The newly installed internet access was brilliant. All these details and its fabulous location contributed to the Nest being a really important part of our 'holiday of a lifetime'. We really envy the next guests at A Nest on Mount Pleasant: we wish we were still there!
A great start to the family holiday
From Fiona and Ron and Family from Melbourne Australia
After a long day travelling from Melbourne / Australia the family arrived at 'The Nest' - set in a lovely bush setting with impressive views of the Christchurch coastline.
We received a warm greeting by hosts: Kathryn and Kai who made us feel very welcome - the wood heater in the downstairs family room had already warmed the whole house. Tea / coffee facilities were ready to go, and there was plenty of room for the family to spread out - it was like a home away from home.
We stayed in quite a few locations during our 3 week trip around NZ's South Island, but when the kids reflect on the holiday, fond memories of our stay at 'The Nest' always come up.
Thanks Kathryn and Kai for sharing this gem with us - we will be back one day.
Home away from home
From Joanne, Martin, Thomas and Christian from Brisbane, Australia
Our hosts Kai and Kathryn could not have been more welcoming friendly and helpful. A Nest on Mt Pleasant is a unique home with wonderful ambience, views, decks and absolutely everything we needed for our stay in Christchurch - even food items in the pantry and fridge that we were welcome to use. Loved the fireplace in the large but cosy lounge and the teenagers really appreciated the internet. Also loved all the board games, interesting books and many brochures/books about Christchurch and NZ. We would definitely stay there again - hopefully soon. It really is a "home away from home". One last thing to top it off - we thought it was exceptionally good value.
Fantastic place to stay
From Ingela and Flemming from Sweden
We got a very warm wellcome and as it was Christmas we even got a Christmas cake and there was a decorated Christmas tree in the the livingroom, so we felt at home straight away.
The house is a fantastic place to spend a vacartion in as all is provided and there is plenty of space and a nice terrace outside.
It's a quiet place away from all noice with a beatiful wiev over the area. It's a bit from the center of Christchurch, bur that's not a problem when you have a car.
We liked the place very much and the only negative experience was that we had to leave it.
